Top places to visit
Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum, a purpose-built neo-Gothic castle, is an exceptional showcase for Dutch art, applied art, and historical objects that take you through 800 years of Dutch history.
Vondelpark
A calm ribbon of ponds, sloping lawns, and old trees stretching west from the Museumplein is Amsterdam's favorite park.
An amusing fact about the park, which was created in 1865, is that it is constantly sinking and must be rebuilt every generation to avoid being fully flooded.
Amsterdam Canal Cruise
A canal tour in Amsterdam is almost a cliché, but water is such an integral element of the city that you simply must go.
The best views of the 17th-century merchant and noble buildings, the numerous bridges, old churches, and adorable houseboats will be yours.
Blijburg beach
Despite the fact that Amsterdam is nowhere near the water, the Dutch have managed to create an artificial beach that provides plenty of sand fun. Blijburg is located on the IJburg artificial island. Aside from swimming and sunbathing, beach parties are held on a regular basis.
Climate in Amsterdam
June to August are the hottest months, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 27 degrees Celsius. Extreme temperatures are uncommon in Amsterdam. Hire a Bike
With 800,000 bikes in the city, Amsterdam is undoubtedly the most cycle-friendly city in the world, thanks to its flat topography and well-planned infrastructure. Most streets feature dedicated bike lanes, allowing you to get where you want to go securely and fast while also feeling like an Amsterdammer. All ferries across the IJ enable you to bring your bicycle for free.
If you don't want to stand out as a tourist, there are a number of companies that offer bikes that are specifically designed to help you blend in.
Shopping in Amsterdam
When it comes to markets, Amsterdam has a lot to offer. Check out the area of Museumplein, which has a lot of high-end retailers, for luxury designer shopping, including clothes, bags, shoes, and watches. You can find slightly less expensive fashionable items in the wonderful area of Jordaan, which has a number of tiny boutique businesses as well as various cafes. If you don't have much time to explore outside of Central Amsterdam's tourist district, you may simply walk about and look at the shops, as well as visit the famed Bloemenmarkt - the flower market.
Religion
The most common religion in Amsterdam is Christianity (17%), with Roman Catholics accounting for the majority (10%), while Islam (14%) is fast gaining popularity and is expected to overtake Christianity in the few years.
Best time to explore the city
The fall season, from September to November, is the finest time to visit Amsterdam. It's a good time to visit the Tulip Capital because of the relatively mild weather and fewer visitors. On some days, the weather can be variable, but it's never awful enough to ruin your trip. The months of April and May are the next best times to visit Amsterdam.
